On Saturday, July 20, 2019, our SongStudio Faculty Concert kicks off the weeklong workshop held at the Royal Conservatory of Music. In addition to workshop organizers Blair Packham and Allister Bradley, this year’s faculty performers include Tom Wilson (Blackie & the Rodeo Kings, Junkhouse), Juno-nominee Barbra Lica, and other artists (TBA) performing in a songwriter-in-the-round format. Admission is free for workshop participants who show their current badges at the door, and $10 advance/$15 at the door for the general public. Songs, stories, unforeseen collaborations and more always abound at these annual events. Regular patrons of Hugh’s Room Live have stumbled upon these events and have made a point of returning every year so get your tickets in advance ASAP. If you’re an emerging artist, you are INVITED to participate in the workshop. If that’s the case, entry is FREE!
Tom is a Canadian rock musician from Hamilton, Ontario. A veteran of the Canadian music scene, Wilson has been a writer and performer for many years. Wilson’s eclectic musical style has ranged from the psychobilly / R&B sounds of the Florida Razors, to the western/roots style of Blackie and the Rodeo Kings and the funk/blues inspired rock of Junkhouse.
More recently, Tom has entered the literary world with the release of his first book, Beautiful Scars. It’s been received with critical acclaim and the team at Hugh’s Room Live and Songstudio couldn’t be happier that he will be in attendance at the Faculty Concert this July.

Barbra Lica is a fast-rising Canadian jazz vocalist and songwriter, and has been receiving accolades for her unique vocal ability that stresses subtlety and grace. Based in Toronto, Barbra’s live shows have captivated audiences all over North America with her genuine warmth and confident stage presence.

Hot on the heels of her 2017 Juno-nominated recording, ‘I’m Still Learning’, Barbra Lica is back with her fifth and most ambitious offering to date – ‘You’re Fine’ (November 2018). Having spent the last couple of years touring clubs and festivals, Barbra found herself in Nashville where she was blown away by the sounds of old country and western swing. She dedicated the next year to song writing trips between Nashville and Toronto, collaborating with new songwriters and work-shopping with her band to find a new space for contemporary jazz, one that borrows and fuses elements of American country music.

Tom Wilson aka LeE HARVeY OSMOND Presents MOHAWK
Advance $25.00 / Door: $30.00 *

“I’m scared and scarred but I’ve survived”

Over the past three decades, Tom Wilson has placed a large bootprint on the Canadian music landscape, first as the charismatic frontman of platinum-selling rock band Junkhouse and now as one-third of acclaimed roots-rock group Blackie and The Rodeo Kings.

For decades Tom carved out a life for himself in shadows. He built an international music career and became a father, he battled demons and addiction, and he waited, hoping for the lies to cease and the truth to emerge.

With a rare gift for storytelling and an astonishing story to tell, Tom writes with unflinching honesty and extraordinary compassion about his search for the truth. His new book, Beautiful Scars, is a story about scars, about the ones that hurt us, and the ones that make us who we are.

On May 16, Tom Wilson presents MOHAWK, which will combine songs and a recital of Beautiful Scars alongside fellow Hamilton-based musician, Jesse O’Brien.
