James Gordon: The Emergency Climate Musical * Postponed

Notice of Postponement Due to COVID-19

Monday, March 16, 2020

Like everyone else in the world, Hugh’s Room Live is closely monitoring the situation around the COVID-19 outbreak. Based on the information currently available, we have made the painfully difficult decision to postpone all shows through to the end of April, effective immediately.
If you have tickets for a postponed show, please watch for more information about rescheduling. We will notify every ticket holder when a new date and venue are found for each the shows on our calendar. If you are unable to attend a rescheduled show, we ask everyone to please consider their ticket purchase a donation to Hugh’s Room Live instead of requesting a refund. As a non-profit registered charity, we will gladly send you a tax receipt for the equivalent amount of your purchase.

Like so many art, culture and hospitality organizations, our artists and staff are struggling greatly during this time. We encourage everyone in our audience here to continue supporting live music wherever possible until we reach the other side of this pandemic that has so devastated the arts and culture of our society. We will of course be reevaluating our decision on a daily basis as we navigate the new circumstances around the pandemic, please know that your continued support, understanding and advocacy in the interim will add much-needed sustainability to our venue and industry at large. Thank you.

The Emergency Climate Musical is James Gordon’s new environmental one-person show with 20 songs, projected images, videos, a creepy puppet and lots of crowd participation!

This event is in fundraising partnership with Council of Canadians – Toronto Chapter

Before the 2015 federal election, songwriter/activist James Gordon barnstormed his way across the country with his hugely successful one-man show “Stephen Harper: the Musical”.
It worked. You’re welcome.
Now he’s back with his “Emergency Climate Musical”: a ninety-minute theatrical investigation of what is certainly THE issue in these uncertain times. Filled with compelling songs, videos, images, stories, rants, laughter, tears, audience participation, a creepy puppet and some concrete ways to face this crisis, James promises to entertain, inform, and leave you with homework.
Follow along as he outlines his premise that we need a total political, societal and economic make-over to face the incredible challenge ahead.
This time he’s got the credentials for the job: James moonlights as a Guelph City Councillor, where he’s introduced climate change motions, and he’s a member of the National Climate Leadership Caucus.

Join us on April 21 as we gather at Hugh’s Room Live to witness the astounding solo live performance by James Gordon. Tickets available right now.

Let Me Clear My Throat
Advance $25.00 / Door $30.00 *

The first ever showcase of Canada’s hot new Celtic hip-hop musical.

The show features its creators, Michael Doyle and Adam Nagler, Finlaggan, and a roster of killer talents including Murray Foster (Great Big Sea, Moxy Fruvous); Mike Ford (Moxy Fruvous); Monique Barry, Mark Rainey, More or Les, and Nathan MacDonald.

A wild night showcasing the epic new Canadian hip-hop – Celtic musical in development about the radical life and premature death of Canada’s unknown poet-statesman-visionary, Thomas D’Arcy McGee.  From Ireland to America to the halls of the House of Commons, McGee’s incredible life was a tribute to the radical philosophy of getting along.

The second half of the night Finlaggan will hit the stage for an unforgettable set.

Finlaggan
Finlaggan is a group of seasoned Canadian Celtic musicians who have each been entertaining audiences across Canada and around the world. Together, they take audiences on a transatlantic odyssey of Celtic music, visiting the traditions of Ireland, Scotland and Cape Breton and uniting them though poignant original songs and lively traditional dance tunes. From the kitchen to the concert hall, Finlaggan is unforgettable.
