Our New Manager


The Board of Directors of Hugh’s Room Live is pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Stewart as Manager of the recently revived venue.

Brian Iler, Chair of the venue’s Board of Directors, states, “After reviewing 43 applications and interviewing six applicants, Mary Stewart was our hiring committee’s unanimous choice for the new Hugh’s Room Live manager. Mary brings a unique combination of management smarts, in-depth food and beverage experience and a strong connection to Toronto’s music community. We’re thrilled that she accepted our offer.”

Mary joins us with more than a dozen years of food and beverage experience in both Toronto and Canada’s East Coast. Mary, who is originally from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia is a music lover and has been involved in a number of projects that will undoubtedly be an asset to Toronto’s “Premier Cabaret Listening Room”.

Mary says, “I am honoured to accept the role of Manager of Hugh’s Room Live as we position ourselves for the future in one of Canada’s most important music venues.”

Hugh’s Room Live’s Music Programmer, Derek Andrews, comments, “Mary’s hospitality and music skills will be invaluable as we develop future ideas for our distinguished listening room.”

Mary, with a thirst for knowledge, has spent a great deal of time studying culinary arts, nutrition and music, all the while observing human dynamics. She accidentally fell into a career in Hospitality at a very young age when she would accompany her father to his catering company.

She goes on to say, “I grew up consuming an incredible range of music genres from folk and pop to opera and hair metal – due in no small part to my parents.” Music has been her passion and she has opened for artists such as George Canyon, Wintersleep, Jenn Grant and Blue Rodeo. In 2009 she was nominated for Music Nova Scotia’s Female Artist Recording of the year.
