The Ault Sisters Celebrate the Season Concert – Matinee Performance
December 15, 2013 @ 1:00 pm$10 – $22.50
We’ve watched The Ault Sisters grow up, heard their voices mature and we’re all pretty darned excited about how far they’ve come! The sisters are joined by four of Toronto’s finest jazz musicians – Robi Botos on piano, George Koller on bass, Ethan Ardelli on drums and Nathan Hiltz on guitar, for what will, undoubtedly be a fabulous afternoon of vocal jazz. Show starts at 1:00PM.
Vocal jazz at its best. That’s what you get from The Ault Sisters – a talented trio of siblings who put their trademark sweet sound and stunning tight vocal harmonies to good effect on a dazzling selection of jazz standards and other classic tunes.
Check out this lovely, mastered track from ‘Timeless’ their now-finished new recording.
The Ault Sisters, (Amanda, Alicia, and Alanna) have been working and recording extensively with noted producer/songwriter Greg Kavanagh on their latest album, ‘Timeless’ – finding time for the studio whenever Alicia has been able to get home from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.
Helping set The Ault Sisters apart from their solo peers is the power of their vibrant vocal harmonies. Alicia notes “I think that incorporating harmonies into newer music is what makes our group unique.” They’ve been singing together all their lives, and this comes as naturally to them as breathing. “We love singing the different parts together and harmonizing with each other,” says Amanda. “It is just a lot of fun to perform and record together.”
Greg Kavanagh observes that “through their genes, the sisters tend to have similarities in their voices and they seem to have an uncanny ability to match. They chase each other around harmonically, so the blends were very interesting. We’d work up harmony parts and ideas and they’d run in and sing them. There’s no AutoTune or studio trickery involved here. Every harmony part is them doing it for real.”
Despite their youth, The Ault Sisters are far from musical novices. Classically-trained and all winners at numerous vocal competitions, they have performed at such prestigious venues as Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre, Brampton’s Rose Theatre, and the new, highly-regarded Jazz Bistro where they packed the room on a Tuesday in August.
We are so looking forward to the release of ‘Timeless’ and this concert – and guarantee that you’ll not be disappointed.
