Hugh’s Room and The Vimy Foundation are proud
A Special Remembrance Day Performance
If Canadian nationhood was won on the crest of Vimy Ridge, it was the Dumbells who provided the country with its earliest soundtrack. Soldiers of Song – a combination of theatre, music and storytelling – is a tribute to the most famous concert party of the First World War. After lifting the morale of the weary troops on the Western Front, these soldier-entertainers returned home to Canada, toured the country a dozen times and became the first ever Canadian hit on Broadway!
The play is based on award-winning author/two-time Juno Award-nominee Jason Wilson’s book Soldiers of Song: The Dumbells and Other Canadian Concert Parties of the First World War. Supporting Wilson will be legendary Canadian storyteller LORNE BROWN, Toronto stage actors JIM ARMSTRONG and ANDREW KNOWLTON, and musicians MARCUS ALI and PATRICE BARBANCHON. Part of the proceeds will go to THE VIMY FOUNDATION, dedicated to preserving and promoting Canada’s First World War legacy as symbolized with the victory at Vimy Ridge in April 1917.
