“Every now and then I hear a song that stops me dead in my tracks. Unwittingly I tense up my shoulders and it’s only when it’s over I realize that I’ve also been holding my breath. ‘Yes We Will’ is a song on Maria Doyle Kennedy’s album Sing – in fact it’s a duet with no less than John Prine – and it is one of those breathtaking musical moments.” The Southern Star

Maria Doyle Kennedy is an Irish singer, actor and filmmaker.

Together with her husband Kieran Kennedy she runs a small independent record label (Mermaid Records) and they have released 6 albums to date, the most recent release being a live album called MARIA LIVE.

She has collaborated with John Prine, Damien Rice and Paul Brady. In May Maria featured on the album Printer Clips with Paul Noonan, Joan As Policewoman, Martha Wainwright and Lisa Hannigan amongst others. Recent acting credits include Orphan Black (for which she won a Canadian Screen Award 2014) and the latest Wachowski’s movie Jupiter Ascending.

Maria finished a run of sold out shows in Europe and USA last spring and now lives in Toronto, Canada where a new album is being made.

She is a great believer in doing things (rather than just talking about doing them).

She loves crisps.

Maria’s music is available on iTunes and www.mariadk.com

“The first thing I heard that caught hold of me was a Billie Holiday album I was given as a present when I was 14. This wasn’t sing-a-long-a-radio kind of sound, it was something deep and primal and sometimes almost unbearably sad.  I had no idea a voice could do that, affect me (or anyone) in that way. It opened the door to an avalanche of life-changing music. Patti Smith came later, Radiohead and Low my favourites still, in the band department.
