Danny Marks Presents a Tribute to Chess Records
Advance $40.00 / Door $45.00 *
Chess Records
Chess was one of the premier blues labels of the 1950s and 60s, also releasing R&B, soul, jazz, gospel and rock. They released records by every major blues artist in Chicago, including John Lee Hooker, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Elmore James, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Little Walter and many others.
Danny Marks
If there’s a popular song from 1900 to now, chances are Danny Marks has heard it, and can sing it. And maybe even put a new spin on it: Johnny Cash performing Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love, or Elvis launching into reggae. An aficionado of the great blues singers of the ’30s and ’40s, Marks was one of the first guitarists to incorporate blues roots into rock music. Now, the popular host of BLUZ FM on JAZZ FM every Saturday night is presenting the music of Chess Records alongside a beautiful cast of some of Toronto’s finest singers and musicians. Follow the links below to see just some of the confirmed performers.
