Gene Dinovi “Memories of The Cotton Club”

On Thursday, January 23rd world renowned pianist, vocalist and composer Gene DiNovi and Order of Canada recipient and bassist Dave Young present “Memories of The Cotton Club” at the JAZZ.FM91 Cabaret Series. DiNovi will tell tall tales from over five decades of performing and will include plenty of music and stories about one of the most prolific artists of all time, Duke Ellington.

From Gershwin to GaGa… Broadsway combines classic Broadway music, jazz and pop with the “broads” unique senses of humour. Heather Bambrick has recorded and performed with Carol Welsman, Peter Appleyard, Fred Hirsch, Ian Shaw and Jackie Richardson; to name a few. JAZZ.FM91 fans also know her as host of “Wake Up…with Heather Bambrick” airing weekdays from 6:00AM to 10:00AM on JAZZ.FM91 (91.1FM).

“The Songs of Sondheim” with Alex Samaras and Bobby Hsu

On March 20th Alex Samaras and Bobby Hsu present “The Songs of Sondheim” with special guest vocalist Sophia Perlman at the JAZZ.FM91 Cabaret Series. Their latest album “A Sondheim Jazz Project”, “rebuilds the long lost bridge between Broadway and modern jazz, setting Stephen Sondheim’s beautiful melodies and brilliant lyrics to the stylistic language of Wayne Shorter and Terence Blanchard. To pay tribute to this prolific composer, Alex Samaras and saxophonist/music historian Bobby Hsu will come together to perform “The Songs of Sondheim”.

 

“A Tribute to Vocal Jazz” with Cadence
 Thursday, April 17, 2014 – 8:30PM

On April 17th “A Tribute to Vocal Jazz” features Canada’s premiere vocal group, Cadence at the JAZZ.FM91 Cabaret Series. Carl Berger, Ross Lynde, Lucas Marchand and Kurt Sampson are all brilliant singers on their own but when they come together as Cadence they are simply one of the best acapella vocal ensembles in North America. Cadence has released four critically acclaimed studio albums and is featured on “A Blues for the New World” by David Clayton Thomas who described this foursome as “pure genius”!
