Michael Johnston Music Studio 6th Annual Student Recital & Spring Celebration

April 21, 2013

$10 - $16

Play on!

It’s time again for the 6th-annual Michael Johnston Music Studio Recital and Spring Celebration.

“For me, the highlight of the year is definitely the music recital held at Hugh’s Room. It is an absolute joy to hear all the students perform and showcase their talents” – Liz, parent
After two nearly sold-out recitals at Hugh’s Room in 2012, we will, for the first time, celebrate over 3 Sundays this year to accommodate the growing community of students and instructors at the Michael Johnston Music Studio.

Over 150 performers of all ages will take to the stage, playing piano, guitar, drums, accordion, bass and singing.

Cheering along will also be our gifted staff of 13 instructors including Michael Johnston, Lori Cullen, Steven Foster, Anika Johnson, Charles James, Kelsey McNulty, Brian MacMillan, Suzy Wilde, Joel Visentin, Mike Evin, Ghislain Aucoin, Richard Piasetski and Sara Ciantar.

In the words of Diane, one of our studio parents: “annual music recitals are not agonizing rituals, but rather community celebrations!”

The Michael Johnston Music Studio, affectionately known as the “coolest small music school in Toronto’s west end”, teaches and celebrates music in traditions of diverse Canadian communities. We love and work in many musical styles: pop, folk, jazz, classical, blues, rock, country, indie and various world musics.
Founded in Toronto in 2006 by Michael Johnston and his wife Annie McDonald, the Michael Johnston Music Studio is located at 119A Roncesvalles Ave.

We believe that music lessons should be, above all, fun. Challenging, inspiring, eclectic, reflective, engaging, disciplined – yes! – but isn’t it time we all accepted that music-making should be, at its very core, joyful!
Over the years, we have made a simple but powerful discovery: if a student enjoys playing, playing (and progress) will continue.

We welcome everyone; our only pre-requisite is a love of music, and a desire to learn. And our philosophy is simple: keep playing.

The recitals bring together months of hard-work and creative exploration by students and teachers alike.

“a community within a community…a place where people come together to share their gifts and celebrate all things music” – Brigeen, parent
